02.4 PowerPlane
The PowerPlane (PP) is the modular backplane of the LumenCache system. It is mounted inside a standard low-voltage wall enclosure and accepts 48V input power from the power supply or battery/solar power energy management system.
Functions of the PowerPlane
The PP distributes the 48V power to all attached Power Distribution Modules (PDMs), and also networks the PDMs together through a reliable communications bus. The PP’s main computer handles commands to the PDMs from the LumenCache web browser interface, or from external sources such as MQTT, WebSockets, TELNET and other protocols. It also supports the Matter protocol for control via Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and more.
The PowerPlane features a touchscreen display that guides users through installation, configuration, control assignments, and maintenance.
The PP can be connected to an Internet router via WiFi or a wired ethernet connection. It also has two CAN-bus connectors, allowing multiple PPs to communicate with each other and interface with a battery management system.
Safety features
The system is completely safe — incorrect combinations during installation merely trigger a temporary fault, while the display explains the issue and suggests how to fix it. Its many protection functions include: under-voltage lockout (for preventing batteries from over-discharge), over voltage protection (for power spikes and incorrect power connections), and over current protection (for short circuits and excessive current draws).
Configurations
The PowerPlane is available in configurations that support 1, 2, or 4 PDMs, allowing for scalability based on project requirements.
• PP-1: up to 640W total (1 PDM, 8 Socket Cards total, up to 80W each Socket Card)
• PP-2: supports up to 1280W total (2 PDMs, 16 Socket Cards total, up to 80W each Socket Card)
• PP-4: supports up to 2560W total (4 PDMs, 32 Socket Cards total, up to 80W each Socket Card)
